JUNE 2008
The Silents; quite an appropriate name until recently, harnessed the isolation of their hometown of Perth to develop their sound as a strong identity before releasing their impressive debut album Things To Learn in last month. It is currently receiving rave reviews in Australia and is yet to be unleashed in the UK.
The Silents take their psychedelic and rock influences and manifest it into their own impressive sound, all in the pressure cooker atmosphere of the smallest sweatiest rehearsal room in rock and roll. Fusing together different genres and mediums where strong boundaries previously existed, the young four-piece boasts a maturity to their music that has forged a cult following of dedicated fans.
They are set to make their mark internationally with their unique and intensely polarized live sound, in which their own mix of raw, blues-driven rock and roll sits hand-in-hand with hallucinatory, melancholic ballads. They've shared the stage with the likes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Mess Hall, Maximo Park and You Am I among others, and will tour throughout 2008. They have toured extensively with The Vines and are Craig Nicholls’ favourite new band, with him expressing support by wearing their t-shirt on stage and tipping them on myspace. We hope to see The Silents on our shores in the not too distant future, where they will doubtless wreak havoc and find a legion of new fans.
